The SkyTower is the headline. SeaWorld wraps its 320-foot observation tower in lights, and it becomes the tallest Christmas tree in San Diego, visible across Mission Bay. Santa and the reindeer. Santa plus two live reindeer in one spot makes this one of the better Santa visits in San Diego. Rudolph does meet-and-greets too, if your kids are into the claymation.

Shows, parade and lights. There’s live holiday music, a Christmas parade, a tunnel of lights synced to music, and the regular animal presentations with seasonal touches. Some nights add fireworks. Last year also added a Mrs. Claus story show for younger kids, but the full 2026 lineup hasn’t been announced.

Food and drink. The candy-topped hot chocolate is the one thing everyone orders, and it earns it. Adults get holiday cocktails and craft beer. The rest is theme park food at theme park prices.

How to do it right

Go in the afternoon. December sunset is before 5, and the park doesn’t really feel like Christmas until the lights come on. Arrive around 2 or 3, see a few animals while it’s light, then stay through dark. Opening to close is a marathon most kids won’t finish.

Buy online, never at the gate. The gate is the worst price you’ll find. Locals should price out a Fun Card or annual pass before buying single-day tickets. They usually pay for themselves by the second visit, and some tiers include parking.

SeaWorld is 10 minutes from Pacific Beach and 15 from La Jolla, so a beach morning followed by an afternoon at the park is an easy December day.
