Where to See Santa in San Diego 2025
San Diego does Santa differently. You’ll find the classic mall photo ops, sure—but you’ll also find Santa skydiving onto the beach, arriving by boat, and built entirely from LEGO bricks. Here are the best Santa experiences in the city, from spectacular to classic, with awards for what makes each one worth your time.
Most Spectacular Entrance: Skydiving Santa at Hotel del Coronado
When: Early December (check Hotel del schedule) | Where: Hotel del Coronado Beach | Cost: Free to watch
Ron Lee, a professional skydiver with decades of experience, parachutes from 4,000 feet and lands on the beach in front of the Hotel del Coronado. He cork-screws down trailing red smoke while hundreds of families watch from the sand. This is hands-down the most dramatic Santa entrance in San Diego—possibly anywhere. The event kicks off Hotel del’s holiday season and includes fireworks after dark. Show up early for good viewing spots on the beach, and stick around to see the hotel’s iconic Norfolk pines lit up with synchronized lights and the beachfront ice skating rink. While you’re in Coronado, the whole village gets festive for the holidays.
Most San Diego: Surfin’ Santa at Seaport Village
When: Late November | Where: Seaport Village waterfront | Cost: Free
Santa arrives by watercraft—because of course he does in San Diego. The arrival includes a boardwalk parade and manufactured snow flurries that delight kids who’ve never seen the real thing. But here’s the real reason to come: Seaport Village is one of the best places in San Diego to meet Santa throughout the season. The setting is casual, the photos are free (or low-cost depending on the setup), and you’re already in a charming waterfront shopping area with restaurants, bay views, and carousel rides. Make an afternoon of it—get your Santa photo, let the kids ride the carousel, grab fish tacos, watch the boats. The location also puts you perfectly positioned to catch the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights in December. It’s the full San Diego experience wrapped around a Santa visit.
Best for LEGO Fans: LEGO Santa at LEGOLAND
When: Throughout holiday season | Where: LEGOLAND California Resort, Carlsbad | Cost: Theme park admission
LEGOLAND’s Santa is built from… just kidding, he’s real. But the setting is pure LEGO magic. Kids can meet LEGO-themed Santa, write letters at the North Pole station, and take “elfie” photos with him. The park also features a larger-than-life LEGO wreath and special holiday shows throughout the day. If you’re already planning a LEGOLAND visit during the holidays, this is the Santa experience your LEGO-obsessed kids will remember. The park goes all-in on Christmas decorations, and the Santa setup fits seamlessly into the brick-built world they love. See our LEGOLAND Holidays guide.
Best Group Experience: San Diego Santa Run
When: December 13, 2025 | Where: Pacific Beach (Garnet Avenue) | Cost: $40-50 (includes Santa suit)
Seven thousand people dressed as Santa running a 5K through Pacific Beach. This is one of the largest Santa runs in the United States and it’s exactly as fun and absurd as it sounds. Everyone gets a five-piece Santa suit (including custom sunglasses), and the event includes a kids’ 1-mile run, a dog 1-mile run, and the Pacific Beach Holiday Parade afterward. Multiple waves start between 8 AM and noon, so you can choose your time and your level of competitiveness. Post-race, participants get a drink ticket for local bars. This isn’t a “meet Santa” experience—this is a “BE Santa with thousands of other Santas” experience, and it’s uniquely San Diego.

Most Classic: Mall Santa
Where: Fashion Valley, Westfield UTC, The Forum Carlsbad | Cost: Photo packages $30-50+
Sometimes you just want the traditional mall Santa photo—the one with the big chair, the professional photographer, and the polished setup. San Diego’s upscale outdoor shopping centers deliver this with California flair. Fashion Valley offers one of the most reliable experiences with online reservations and professional photo packages. Westfield UTC and The Forum in Carlsbad both have solid Santa setups with shorter lines on weekday mornings. The malls are already decorated and full of holiday shopping, so you can knock out photos and gift-buying in one trip. It’s the classic experience done well, with palm trees visible in the parking lot reminding you this is still San Diego. Check our gift guide for local shopping ideas while you’re there.
Best Farm Experience: Bates Nut Farm
When: Weekends in December | Where: Bates Nut Farm, Valley Center (about 45 minutes from downtown) | Cost: Farm admission
The same family farm that goes all-in on Halloween pumpkins delivers on Christmas too. Santa appears on weekends surrounded by farm animals, holiday decorations, and a distinctly rural vibe. Kids can see Santa, pet animals, run around the farm, and soak up the countryside Christmas atmosphere. It’s a different pace from the mall or theme park Santas—more laid-back, more space to breathe, and you’re supporting a local family farm. Good option if you want to combine Santa with a day trip out of the city. While you’re in North County, check out the other holiday events happening in Carlsbad and Encinitas.
Best for Adults: SantaCon San Diego
When: December 13, 2025 | Where: Gaslamp Quarter, Downtown | Cost: Free (donations encouraged)
SantaCon is the adult version of the Santa Run—thousands of people in Santa costumes bar-hopping through the Gaslamp Quarter. This is a 21+ party crawl, not a family event. Participants dress as Santa, elves, reindeer, or anything holiday-adjacent and move from bar to bar throughout the afternoon and evening. The event supports local charities and attracts a massive crowd. If you’re looking for a Santa-themed social experience with other adults and no children in sight, this is it. Just know what you’re getting into—it’s festive, it’s loud, and it’s decidedly not wholesome.
Worth the Drive: Santa’s Village at SkyPark
Where: Skyforest (Lake Arrowhead area, about 2 hours from San Diego) | Cost: Ticketed experience | Reservations: Required
Not technically San Diego, but if you’re willing to make the mountain drive, Santa’s Village at SkyPark delivers a full Christmas village experience. You can have breakfast with Santa, tea with Mrs. Claus, ice skate, watch a light show, and take photos throughout the village. The whole place is designed for Christmas—it’s not a theme park that added Santa, it’s a Santa-focused destination that happens to have other activities. The mountain setting gives you actual winter weather (or at least the closest thing Southern California offers), and the village aesthetic is charming. Worth the drive if you want a full-day Christmas immersion, but plan ahead—reservations are highly recommended and the experience books up quickly. See our Christmas road trips guide for more ideas on getting out of the city.
Address: 28950 CA-18, Skyforest, CA 92385
Planning Your Santa Visit
Timing matters: Mall Santas and theme park Santas have the longest lines on weekends, especially the two weekends before Christmas. Weekday mornings or late November offer shorter waits. If you’re already planning to attend December Nights, they have free Santa photos in the Family Zone—another great option.
Free vs. paid: Seaport Village, Surfin’ Santa arrival, and watching Skydiving Santa are free. Mall Santas, LEGOLAND, and Santa’s Village require payment. The Santa Run and SantaCon charge for participation but include the costume and experience. Check our free events guide for more no-cost holiday activities.
Photo tips: Some venues let you take your own photos (Seaport Village, December Nights), while others sell professional packages (mall Santas, LEGOLAND). Check ahead so you know what to expect.
What to bring: Kids’ wish lists (it helps them remember what to say), patience for lines, a backup plan if your kid melts down, and realistic expectations. Not every Santa visit goes perfectly, and that’s okay—the imperfect photos are often the most memorable.
San Diego offers Santa experiences for every type of family, from spectacular entrances to classic mall photos to adult bar crawls. Pick the one that fits your style, show up with a good attitude, and let Santa do the rest. See our family activities guide, browse our complete events calendar, or explore free Christmas events.
